After graduating I moved home while I look for a job in the city. Since I have moved back to Boston I have been working a lot from. This includes blogging and actually looking for work. For the time being, and true while I was in school; my room is also like my office! I have always struggled with getting work done from home, there are so many distractions and your bed is right there ready for a nap whenever you are. So here are a few tips that I use to stay on track while I work from home!
It is so easy to lose track of time when you're working from your bed or in your room. I like to stay on top of what I need to do, and the chalk wallpaper lets me have major deadlines or things to do laid out right in front of me! If it's an extra busy day or if I am overwhelmed with the things I need to get done I like to write out a separate list within my planner (usually on a sticky note) in order of importance. I am definitely one of those people that likes to make lists just so I feel productive when I cross them out.
Another way to stay away from distractions is to keep a clean room. Especially on your desk/workspace. If I am procrastinating work I will find any excuse to do something else. So if I have books, notebooks, other work I put it out of sight for the time being so that I can stay focused on what I'm doing. I also get anxious when my desk is looking messy (cleaning is often a distraction!) and find that I can think way clearer in a clean workspace!
